The other IVF

Isn’t it funny when you notice that you have something on your brain and then you notice things related to it every where?

As you know I’ve recently started my new job and its my first time being in the hospital since starting fertility treatments. Today I was reading someone’s chart and it mentioned IVF all over the chart. Of course to me IVF is in vitro fertilization, but that might not be the case for others. I’m thinking this is weird, since its the chart of a 45 year old man. Then I realized, oh wait, Its not that IVF. Intravenous fluids. Duh.

Also, I’m analyzing every new person I meet at the hospital. Oh, you’re married and 35 with no kids? Are you infertile? I can’t help but wish we had a secret handshake to see if someone else is in our elite group 🙂

Sometimes I think fertility issues are all I think about! I’m going to make it my mission to try to think about other things like helping people, getting to know the people I work with and spreading the love of Jesus.

Have you ever taken a reality check and realized something is dominating your thoughts? What did you do to shake them?

  1. Pregnancy and babies dominate my thoughts on a daily basis and as much as I try to avoid the fertility commercials on the radio, or a comedy show with fertility issues, or pregnancy announcements on the radio and in real life, I have come to realise that they are a part of life. Embrace the thoughts, think about it, and let it go.

  2. When I start to notice my thoughts are solely about one thing, I switch them to being thankful about other things or thinking about God. I don’t ever want anything to be an obsession or else it becomes an idol. Yikes!

  3. It’s the first, and last, thing I think about every single day. I am sure my friends are getting bored to tears of hearing me obsess over it. Gosh, they are so patient, though.
I probably owe my friends a lunch and a conversation about something other than my ovaries.

  4. I haven’t yet figured out how to shake the feelings, so if you do figure it out, please let me know! My attempts so far though have been to throw myself into new things. Crazy things though, like opening a business… Okay, haven’t actually done that yet, but thinking about it! Maybe I need something huge in my life to change its course…

    • Not sure of your background, but praying has really helped me. I just pray for others who have what I want and then pray for contentment….worth a try if you’ve not tried before!!

      • I grew up Catholic but lost my way a bit after my divorce, as I didn’t feel very accepted by the church. I don’t attend mass anymore, but I certainly still ask and thank God, maybe not often enough though. This is a good reminder to do it more often.
